General Eligibility: Pass in a Postgraduate programme or equivalent from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks. Entrance Exam is must. NET / JRF Waived off for candidates qualifying the VGU PhD Entrance Exam. Minimum Duration: 3 years.

📋 PhD Admission Process

Submit Application

Apply online at forms.vgu.ac.in. Select PhD and your preferred discipline. Upload PG marksheets and NET/JRF/GATE certificate (if applicable). Application fee: ₹2,500 (non-refundable).

PhD Entrance Exam

Candidates without NET/JRF/GATE qualification must appear in the VGU PhD Entrance Exam. NET/JRF/GATE qualified candidates are exempt and proceed directly to Interview.

Research Interview

Shortlisted candidates appear before the VGU Research Selection Committee. The interview evaluates your research area, subject depth, and potential for original contribution.

Supervisor Allotment

Selected candidates are matched with a PhD supervisor based on research area and supervisor availability. VGU has 200+ PhD-qualified research guides across all disciplines.

Course Work + Research

All PhD scholars complete mandatory Course Work in the first year — Research Methodology, domain-specific advanced courses and Publication Workshop. Followed by independent research. Minimum duration: 3 years.

Thesis Submission & Defence

After completing research and publishing minimum 2 papers in Scopus/Web of Science indexed journals, thesis is submitted. Open viva-voce is conducted before a panel of internal and external experts.
